17th April 1987

On April 17th 1987, a Great White Shark was caught (accidentally) on a baited set line, between Filfla and Zurrieq. The Shark measured between 5.3 metres and 6 metres. When the fishermen, Alfredo Cutajar and Vince D`Amato arrived at Zurrieq, these found out that the small crane placed on the wharf couldn’t lift it out of the sea. So they decided to tow it to Marsaxlokk, the fishermen’s village, since it was the nearest and most adequate place to take out this magnificent creature.
